Roatan, Honduras | November 28-December 5, 2026

Roatan sits on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest reef system in the world, and the reef runs so close to shore that boat rides are short, conditions are consistently calm, and the diving starts fast. Walls, canyons, coral gardens, sea turtles, eagle rays, reef sharks, nurse sharks, Caribbean reef fish in every direction, and December sitting right in the window when whale sharks have been sighted in these waters.

This trip is fully all-inclusive at the Mayan Princess Beach and Dive Resort on West Bay Beach. Three meals a day, premium drinks, and 15 guided dives with Mayan Divers, the on-site PADI Five Star dive operation -- all included from the moment you arrive. Non-divers have a full week of beach, resort life, and island excursions right outside the door.

The Diving

Roatan's position on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef means the dive sites are close, the currents are generally mild, and the variety is real. Walls that drop into deep blue water. Coral canyons and swim-throughs. Gardens thick with Caribbean reef fish. And conditions in late November and December that put you in one of the better windows of the year for marine life activity.

Marine Life

Sea turtles and eagle rays are regular sightings on Roatan's reefs. Reef sharks and nurse sharks patrol the walls and sandy patches. Slow down on the coral and the macro life opens up, seahorses, nudibranchs, moray eels, cleaning stations where fish queue up for service from cleaner shrimp. December also sits in one of the better windows for whale shark sightings in these waters, with late November through February considered a favorable season as whale sharks follow fish spawning activity along the reef. No operator can promise a sighting, but if it is going to happen, this is the kind of timing that gives you a real shot.

Mayan Divers

All dives run with Mayan Divers, the on-site PADI Five Star IDC dive operation at the Mayan Princess Resort. Small groups, detailed site briefings before every dive, and a fleet of boats that means you are never sitting on a crowded deck waiting for a seat. Mayan Divers runs two morning dives and a third afternoon dive each day, which is how the trip hits 15 dives in five days. Camera rental and photo services are available through Mayan Divers for divers who want to shoot but have not invested in their own system yet.

The Optional Shark Dive

December 4 is the optional add-on day. The shark dive takes you to Cara a Cara, Face to Face, a 70-foot plateau on Roatan's south side where Caribbean reef sharks congregate naturally. This is not a baited or chummed experience, the sharks are here because it is their territory. It is an additional cost on top of the trip price. If the shark dive is not for you, December 4 is a free day for island exploration, a spa day, or simply more time on the beach.

Nitrox

Nitrox is available at Mayan Divers for certified nitrox divers at an additional cost. If you want to maximize your bottom time on every dive, and you are not yet nitrox certified, the SDI Computer Nitrox course can be completed quickly before the trip. Call us at (480) 881-4013 to get that scheduled.

Where We Stay: Mayan Princess Beach and Dive Resort

The Mayan Princess is Roatan's only fully all-inclusive premium resort and it sits directly on West Bay Beach, consistently rated among the top beaches in the Caribbean. The white sand runs right to the edge of the property, the turquoise water is steps from the pool, and Mayan Divers is on-site, which means zero commute between your room and the dive boat.

The resort has four restaurants, two pools including a waterfall pool, a spa, open-air lounge, beach club, and nightly entertainment. Free kayaks and paddleboards are available for guests. All meals, premium drinks, Wi-Fi, and non-motorized water sports are included.

For Non-Divers

Roatan works well for mixed groups precisely because non-divers have real options, not just a beach to sit on while everyone else is on the boat.

The Resort Itself

Four restaurants, two pools, a spa, beach cabanas, kayaks, paddleboards, fitness classes, and nightly entertainment, all without leaving the property. For anyone who just wants to unplug for a week on one of the best beaches in the Caribbean, the Mayan Princess is a full vacation on its own.

Snorkeling the Reef

The Mesoamerican Reef runs close to shore at West Bay, which means non-divers can snorkel the same reef system the divers are exploring below. Sea turtles, colorful reef fish, and clear water are accessible from the beach in front of the resort.

Island Excursions

Roatan is small enough to explore in a day but varied enough to fill several. The sloth and monkey sanctuary is one of the most-booked excursions on the island, an up-close wildlife encounter with rescued animals in a conservation setting. ATV jungle tours take you through the island's interior terrain. Zip-lining through the jungle canopy is available with beach time built in after. For a calmer afternoon, a catamaran cruise along the coast or a stand-up paddleboard session in Half Moon Bay are easy options from West Bay.

West End Village

A short ride from the resort, West End is Roatan's laid-back village hub, local restaurants, bars, shops, and the kind of Caribbean street life that does not exist inside a resort compound. It is worth an afternoon for anyone who wants to see more of the island.

Food and Dining

Three meals a day are included with the trip, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, across four restaurants at the Mayan Princess. The menus rotate between buffet and a la carte service with both Caribbean and international options. Premium alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are included throughout the stay. For a night out, West End Village has local restaurants within a short ride of the resort.

Frequently Asked Questions

What certification do I need to dive on this trip?

Open Water Diver certification or higher from any recognized agency. If you are not yet certified, call us at (480) 881-4013 - there is still time to complete an Open Water course before the trip.

Is this trip truly all-inclusive?

Yes. Three meals a day, premium alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, 15 guided dives, one night dive, and airport transfers are all included. The items not included are airfare, nitrox, the optional shark dive, marine park fees, and gratuities.

What is the water like in late November and December?

Water temperature runs 78-84 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. Visibility is typically strong, expect 60 to 100 feet at most sites. Late November and December sit in a favorable window for marine life activity, including an increased chance of whale shark sightings as they follow fish spawning aggregations along the reef during this period.

Will we see whale sharks?

No operator can promise a whale shark sighting, they are wild animals following their own patterns. That said, late November through February is considered one of the better windows for whale shark presence in Roatan's waters. The chance is real. Whether it happens depends on the ocean.

What is the shark dive on December 4?

The optional shark dive takes place at Cara a Cara, a 70-foot plateau on Roatan's south side where Caribbean reef sharks naturally congregate. This is not a baited experience, the sharks are here on their own terms. It is an additional cost not included in the trip price. December 4 is otherwise a free day for anyone who skips it.

Is nitrox available?

Yes, through Mayan Divers on-site. Nitrox is available for certified nitrox divers at an additional cost. If you want to dive nitrox and are not yet certified, Dive Arizona offers the SDI Computer Nitrox course, call us at (480) 881-4013 to get it scheduled before the trip.

I don't dive. Is this trip worth it for me?

Yes. The Mayan Princess sits on one of the top-rated beaches in the Caribbean with four restaurants, two pools, a spa, kayaks, paddleboards, and nightly entertainment all on property. Off the resort, Roatan has snorkeling, a wildlife sanctuary, ATV tours, zip-lining, West End Village, and catamaran excursions. Non-divers have a full week of options.

How do flights work?

Roatan's airport (RTB) receives direct and connecting flights from major US hubs. Most routes connect through Houston, Miami, or Atlanta. Flights are not included in the trip price, book your own airfare to Roatan (RTB). Airport transfers to and from the Mayan Princess are included once you land.

Can I book for two people if only one of us dives?

Yes. The trip is open to divers and non-divers. Contact us to discuss pricing and room options for mixed pairs.

What is the refund policy?

The $400 deposit is non-refundable. 50% of additional payments made are refundable up to September 1, 2026. No refunds are issued after September 1, 2026. Travel insurance covering cancellation is strongly recommended.
