FRTI Adult, Child, and Infant CPR/First Aid/AED Course

When someone stops breathing or their heart stops, the people already in the room are the first responders. Emergency medical services take minutes to arrive. Bystander CPR in the first few minutes is one of the most significant factors in survival from cardiac arrest. This course gives you the knowledge and hands-on practice to be that person.

The FRTI Adult, Child, and Infant CPR/First Aid/AED course covers CPR, AED use, and first aid for victims of all ages in a single program. It is OSHA and ILCOR compliant and accepted by the United States Coast Guard, meaning it meets the regulatory and professional standards required by employers, maritime workers, and dive certification agencies. It is also the CPR and first aid certification accepted for SDI Rescue Diver, Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, and Instructor programs.

What the Course Covers

CPR for Adults, Children, and Infants

The course covers one-person CPR technique for adult, child, and infant victims. CPR technique varies meaningfully by age group, compression depth, hand placement, and breath delivery are all different for an infant than for an adult, and the course covers each scenario with hands-on practice. Recognizing when CPR is needed and how to assess a victim before beginning compressions is also covered.

AED Use

An automated external defibrillator (AED) delivers an electrical shock to restore a normal heart rhythm in a victim of sudden cardiac arrest. AEDs are widely available in public spaces, workplaces, and recreational facilities, and they are designed to be used by bystanders without medical training. The course covers how to recognize when an AED is appropriate, how to operate one correctly for adult and child victims, and how to coordinate AED use with ongoing CPR.

First Aid

The first aid component covers two categories: serious emergencies that require immediate intervention, and common injuries that can be treated on-site without emergency services. Workplace-relevant scenarios are specifically included. Topics include bleeding control, wound care, shock recognition and management, choking response for adults, children, and infants, burns, fractures, and environmental emergencies.

Activating Emergency Medical Services

Knowing when and how to call for help is part of effective emergency response. The course covers how to recognize a true emergency, how to activate EMS quickly and accurately, and how to continue providing care while help is on the way.

ILCOR Compliant
