Breathing underwater for the first time is hard to describe until you've done it. The Scuba Discovery Program is the easiest way to try it. You spend a session in the pool with one of our instructors, learn a few basic skills, and get to swim around and see how it feels, no certification and no commitment required. If you love it, the door to getting certified is right there. And if it turns out diving isn't your thing, you've spent an easy afternoon in the water finding out.

What you'll do

Everything happens in the pool with an instructor right next to you, so there's no ocean, no boat, and nothing to be nervous about. You'll get fitted with gear, learn how to breathe on a regulator, clear your mask, and move around underwater. Most people are cruising around the deep end within the first half hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know how to swim?
Basic comfort in the water helps, but you don't need to be a strong swimmer. Everything happens in the pool where you can stand up, and an instructor is with you the whole time.
Do I need any scuba experience?
None at all. This program is built for people who have never breathed underwater, so if you've never touched a regulator in your life, you're exactly who it's for.
How old do you have to be?
The minimum age is 10. If you have an 8 or 9 year old who wants to try, the Future Buddies Program is built for them instead.
What does the session include?
Your pool session, all of your scuba gear rental, your instructor, and the SDI Scuba Discovery online code. You just bring a swimsuit and a towel.
How long does it take?
Plan on about two and a half hours at the pool. That gives you time to get fitted, go over the basics, and spend a good while actually diving.
Does this certify me to dive?
No, the Discovery Program is a taste, not a certification. If you love it and want to dive open water, the next step is the SDI Open Water Scuba Diver Course, and our team can walk you through it.
Can I do it with my kid or a friend?
Absolutely, and most people do. Anyone 10 and up can sign up for the same session, which makes it an easy underwater play date.
